Product Description

Product Description

Seeing is believing: look at the pictures and lose weight - permanently! Dr Shapiro explains why 'going on a diet' is a bad idea: every dieter is looking for the miraculous moment when they reach target weight and can start eating 'normally' again. The key cause of unwanted weight gain is eating without thinking. It doesn't take much to make us aware of what we're eating, but sometimes we have to see it to believe it. - Clear pictures of calorie-counted portions help you make informed choices about everything you eat - Stop depriving yourself, stop feeling guilty - and stop dieting - Change your relationship with food for ever

5.0 out of 5 stars Picture Perfect Weight loss, 31 Jan 2004
By Philippa Q (Northamptonshire, UK) - See all my reviews
Fantastic book, intoducing new concepts about how to view food and take control of your eating. Very simple, yet contains all the advice you need. Really brilliant and has set me off on a very positive track, after years of yo-yo dieting, and I know I shall lose wieght, having read it. So pleased I got it.

Think the previous review, meant 5 stars too, reading his comments, not 1!!

2.0 out of 5 stars A good idea but rather disappointing, 31 May 2001
By A Customer
I'd heard good things about this book and thought it sounded like a novel but useful tool to aid healthy eating. The idea of giving clear alternatives to calorie laden snacks is very clever. The book is beautifully photographed and very easy to understand. There are, however, two problems with it. The first is not of the authors making: This is an American book and a lot of the alternatives suggested are not available in the UK ie light waffles, bialys (a sort of bread roll), vegetable pepperoni. The second problem is that the book is a little inconsistant. One page shows eight potatoes with salsa as having 880 calories while a few pages later an individual baked potato with salsa is quoted as having 150 calories. They can't both be right. Other inconsistancies include bagels containing approx 400 calories (although this to varies in the book) whereas the ones in my local supermarket all contain about 240 calories - is this down to overestimating the calories or are the bagels more fattening in the US? It would be nice to know. These things made me lose confidence in the book. Also, some of the measurements are exact while other items are just described as weightless portions. I still think the idea of the book is good and it looks great but I think the inconsistencies would need to be ironed out before I could trust it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent!, 26 Oct 2003
By A Customer
I found this book very helpful in getting ideas of what to eat and what to look out for! Certain pre-conceived ideas of what constitutes fatty foods are made much clearer in this book. I got very good ideas of the healthy choices I have when I crave for something really sweet. This book does not aim to provide a weight loss plan but rather to enable you to make the low calorie choices you wish to make when you are eating either in a restaurant or at home.
