2.0 out of 5 stars not great, 7 Feb 2007
By booky (leicester) - See all my reviews
This review is from: False Impression (Paperback)
I have been a fan of pretty much all of Jeffrey Archer's novels in a kind of nice to take on holiday for an easy read kind of way. This one follows pretty much his main theme of goodie being chased through various countries by baddie, the only problem being that in previous books it was clear to see why the goodie was bothering and where their resources came from. In this one l can't help asking myself why she would bother.....because she's honest & doesnt want anyone ripped off blah blah blah. If you got sacked from your job after suspecting your boss of fraud would you a) contact the police and make a statement or b) spend what little money you had left flying across the world to warn the 'victim' in person? This book is complete nonesense.

Good fast paced story that really gets you gripped early. Has the added drama of being set at the time of the 9/11 disaster. Main characters interesting and well described.
Well worth the read

3.0 out of 5 stars Poor impression, 12 April 2007
By John (Scotland) - See all my reviews
This review is from: False Impression (Paperback)
Parts of this were OK but it did not hold me. The description of the escape from the twin towers on 9/11 was vivid and well written.
The actual story left me cold. Why would rich people borrow from the unscrupulous Fenston at absorptive interest rates? I am no art lover so could not relate to the obsessions the characters had with collecting masterpieces. Why did Anna the hero get involved in the first place? She was sacked from two jobs did not have a lot of money but flew to London, Hong Kong, Tokyo, Bucharest and back again to help an aristocratic English family save their art collection. Could a university professor recreate one of Van Gogh's masterpieces over a weekend good enough to fool Fenston initially? The subsequent mix up of the two paintings and the destruction of one of them was too predictable.
Krantze the assassin was a failed Rumanian gymnast. All very handy as she jumped out of windows and escaped from prison
It all seemed like a story hastily put together to boost the authors bank book. Very disappointing when compared with earlier Archer novels such as Kane and Abel.

His first novel after his release from prison, it is clear that Jeffery Archer missed his globe trotting and art dealing very much because he writes a fast paced thriller around... Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars It's good.
It was a good read and yes it can get confusing but most good novels do. You have to follow the plot and if you keep up with it, it is a good read.

4.0 out of 5 stars set in 2001 but makes a 2004 blunder!!!
Mr Archer- clearly you don't have a smart proofreader! The story is set in 2001 and you mention a 2004 event! Read more

3.0 out of 5 stars No detailed impression!
Whilst the story sped along at a fair pace, it's a pity Mr Archer didn't pay enough attention to some basic details. Read more
