Having only discovered Lisa Scottoline in 2000, this book was one of many to to be grabbed from the shelves this year.

As with other series, it is satisfying to get to know in greater depth a set of characters, Bennie, Judy and Mary in particular. As ever, the books are full of strong female roles, further emphasised by Mary's fears and worries about underachiveing (see also 'Everywhere that Mary Went').

The theme of the book is around family secrets and twins separated at birth. The 'is she, isn't she my twin?' question that Bennie suffers builds very well to the shocking climax. The courtroom scenes are also well-paced and credible, dealing with legal corruption at the same time as fighting to save an alleged murderer.
