Product Description

Product Description
A practical guide for parents and educators to allow them to see the world through the eyes of a dyslexic child. Robert Frank has experienced dyslexia firsthand, going undiagnosed until he entered university. His observations and programme for success are based on years of working with children and families dealing with behavioural and learning problems. Dr Frank explains that dyslexia is more than just a reading problem and that, in fact, many of the methods now used by parents and teachers may be making matters worse be reinforcing the child's fears and frustrations. This book seeks to enable readers to appreciate the emotional struggles the dyslexic child faces and to understand the best ways to coach the child to his or her self-esteem and achievement.

From the Publisher
• One in three children in the UK has dyslexia
• Author is himself dyslexic
• Programme based on years of working with children and families with behavioural and learning disabilities

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent read for both parent and teacher, 9 May 2003
I have read & also reviewed many books on Dyslexia and this book is well written, flows well and provides very useful and practical information for both parent and teacher alike. Useful examples of day to day problems that exist and the anxieties that children with dyslexia face. The writer takes you step by step into "their" (the dyslexic's) world and offers examples of how to help assist and coach. An 'eye opener' for everyone on how it "really feels" to be Dyslexic.

Well worth the space on anyone's bookshelf - whether parent or teacher and I will also add it to my website for parents of dyslexic children www.dyslexichelp.org

5.0 out of 5 stars vital reading for parents and teachers of dyslexic children, 11 Nov 2007
By B. Smith - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
As a person who has perhaps the complete opposite way of thinking to dyslexia (very good with language, concepts and sequencing) I had no idea how to help my stepson when I met him, aged 5, and he showed so many different ways of doing things. This book was a godsend. It opened up my eyes to the fact that he was not lazy and that I needed to try to see the world from his viewpoint. Doing this improved our relationship a huge amount, and both his dad and I were able to support his learning to a much greater degree.
Dyslexia is NOT just about getting the letters back to front, or trouble with reading. It affects kids' (and their families') lives, in so many ways. This book sympathetically explains these. Highly recommended.
