I can't praise this recording enough - my son went to sleep listening to it for months in a row. A classic trickster tale with elements of Where the Wild Things Are in it, it tells of how a little mouse outwits a series of predators by claiming he's off to meet a Gruffalo - a terrifying imaginary beast whose favourite food just happens to be owl/fox/snake. But then the Gruffalo turns out to really exist, and only the mouse's quick wits can save HIM from being eaten.

WIth full orchestra and the divine Imelda Staunton it's perfection...
