Product Description

Product Description

'Dana is my life force' - Christopher. 'Chris is simply the greatest person I have ever known. He's more than the love of my life. He's my best friend' - Dana. He was a hero in every sense of the word - the chiselled-from - granite star of four blockbuster "Superman" films and the romantic classic "Somewhere in Time" who, after being paralysed from the neck down in a freak horseback riding accident, battled back to become a symbol of hope for millions. Dana Reeve was no less heroic, standing steadfastly by her husband's side until his surprisingly sudden and unexpected death at age 52. When Dana, a non-smoker, passed away from lung cancer just 17 months after Christopher's death, she left behind their 13-year-old son, Will, to be raised by friends and family. Dana was only 44 years old. That fate could have dealt such a cruel hand to this golden couple seemed unfathomable. That they could endure it all with grace, courage and humour defied belief. Yet for all the millions of words that have been written about their public causes and private struggles following Christopher's accident, little is known about the lives they led as passionate young lovers. Now Christopher Andersen draws on those who knew them best to examine in touching detail the Reeves' unique partnership and the romance, faith and fortitude that defined it. Sometimes heartbreaking, often uplifting, always compelling, "Somewhere in Heaven" is more than just a portrait of a marriage. It is the profoundly human story of two souls whose brief lives made a difference, a bittersweet saga of tragedy, triumph and loss, and - above all else - a love story for the ages. --This text refers to an alternate Hardcover edition.

5.0 out of 5 stars A REAL love story!, 27 April 2009
Christopher and Dana Reeve were not in the news quite as often in the in the UK. The news of Christopher's sudden and unexpected death was, of course, announced on the national news - as was the death of 'Christopher Reeve's wife' 17 months later.
I was a fan of Christopher's since I was a little girl, one of the millions that first fell in love with him in the movie 'Somewhere In Time'. Because of this I was lucky to read both of his books, 'Still Me' and 'Nothing is Impossible'. Through them I was also introduced to Dana...

Christopher was a huge talent both on the screen and in the theatre. Reading his books you got to know him as a strong, proud, humble, loving and VERY funny man - who became the president of a club he never wanted to join! Beautifully put by his son Will, Chris never 'faked it' he 'lived to love'. He was always a politically active man and after his accident they soon realised the real difference he could make.
From a woman's point of view Dana jumps right off the page and hits you in your heart. She's a woman who fell head over heels in love with a man who adored her, she didn't 'sacrifice her life' out of pity or duty to her husband - life didn't go the way she'd planned, but she felt lucky to be with Chris and didn't want to be anywhere else. She was brave and honest, with a fantastic wit and a love of life. She had a voice that made Chris fall for her after hearing her sing one song, and a talent for acting and comedy. She was discribed as having the 'divine spark'.

Reading 'Somewhere in Time' you're brought into a love story that is so real I actually found myself smiling, laughing, crying...and I have to admit gushing at the romance. I am not an overly sentimental person by nature and this is not a sentimental book. These are real people, real problems, and very real heartbreaks...and at the centre of all that is a family that had 'become accustomed to living [their] life with joy amidst pain and challenges'.
I didn't want to finish the book, to read about the last cruel blow of Dana's battle with lung cancer...but it didn't feel like the end. They both left a legacy that will go on for years in the hard work of their family and friends. Not many people live such a short life and have such an impact on so many people, as many have said - changing the people around them by example.
They were lucky to have found each other, lucky to have Will (and Matthew and Alexander) to fight for, lucky to have the chance to win the hearts of so many...and lucky to do what they wanted to do with the situation forced upon them - make a diffence and remind the world of the millions of people copying in similar situations without their 'advantages', pretty amazing by any standards...

To put it in Dana's own individual way,
"You have to celebrate the gifts because life is so hard and once you realize life's gonna be hard, the good stuff really comes forward."
The truth of that shines through in every page of 'Somewhere in Heaven'.
