This is a terrific collection of stories that were adapted as classic films. For anyone who is interested in checking out the originals, it's invaluable, particularly in its inclusion of some extremely rare items (Hagar Wilde's "Bringing Up Baby"). And Stephanie Harrison is no snob; she provides generous space for horror and science fiction items (she even knows that it's "SF", not "sci-fi"!). This is a great anthology, painstakingly chosen and lovingly annotated. The introductions provided by Harrison are almost as valuable as the stories themselves. My only small gripe concerns the anecdote about F. Scott Fitzgerald's earnings. The $31.77 in question was not his lifetime income from his books - far from it. It was just his earnings in 1929, when Fitzgerald's reputation was at an all time low and the Great Depression at an all time high. But that is an uncharacteristic glitch in a superbly researched and presented collection. Let's have another one, please.
