5.0 out of 5 stars New authors look no further, 2 Jul 2007
By T. Oliver "3rd Age writer" (Hereford, UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
If you only ever buy one book on online book marketing, make sure it's Steve Weber's 'Plug Your Book'. Written in clear simple English and assuming no prior knowledge of marketing - online or otherwise, Steve Weber led me through the whole maze of book promotion on the web, with special emphasis on using Amazon.
Take the tip from the intro and read the whole thing through to get a bird's eye view of what is possible for both the neophyte and the seasoned pro to achieve. It's compelling reading if you're hungry to get started and don't know where to begin.
Steve Weber lists having your own website and blog as top priorities for selling your book and steering traffic to it.
He points out all the pitfalls to the unwary - what used to work but has since been overtaken. All the arcane methods used by Amazon in its rankings - how to get good reviews from strangers, how to avoid wasting money - he covers all the bases.
I've now worked my way through Plug Your Book twice and re-read some sections several times - this is a reference book that I feel will become dog-eared with use before I'm through with it. There's enough stuff to try out here to keep me busy for the next year.
I dreaded the whole idea of having to market my novel - but this book has actually got me excited about all the possibilities.
And you can sign up to his blog where he posts continual updates to his book to keep you up to speed with the latest developments in online book marketing.
This is a goldmine - the motherlode for writers.

5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent resource, 7 Nov 2008
By Michael Faulkner "author, The Blue Cabin" (Strangford Lough, N. Ireland) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I sent for Steve Weber's book because I was aware that unless a title becomes a big seller by the conventional routes of endorsements, reviews, features, the enthusiasm of bookshop managers and of course word of mouth; then there comes a time when the only realistic way to maintain it's currency, and to invoke the elusive Long Tail of marketing, is by putting some effort into online sales, particularly through Amazon.

What I discovered is not only that there are numerous tried and tested strategies for directing internet users to your book, including imaginative use of the marketing tools on Amazon itself, and the use of social networking and bookmarking sites; but also that these strategies should really be implemented early on - in many cases, well before publication.

What I liked most about Weber's book is that it doesn't remotely recommend any of the sleight of hand or shady practice sometimes associated with online marketing, spamming etc. On the contrary, the key things are practicality, courtesy and good old fashioned hard work.

Every author should have a copy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Online Marketing Book Ever, 17 Jan 2008
By Brandon Simpson "Author of 'The American Lang... (Northern Kentucky) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Steve Weber's "Plug Your Book" is the best online marketing book I have ever read. I have also read "Sell Your Book On Amazon" and "Aiming At Amazon," but these books deal strictly with Amazon.

"Plug Your Book" teaches you several online tactics such as the importance of blogging. When I do Google searches of my books, the most frequently shown results are from my blogs and from MySpace blogs.

Speaking of MySpace, it is very helpful to get the word out about your book. I'm convinced that I've sold the majority of my books because someone saw them on MySpace. But I can't be sure.

"Plug Your Book" is good for promoting your book all over the web in general. You should also get a copy of "Aiming At Amazon" if you plan to promote your book on Amazon. Don't bother getting a copy of "Sell Your Book On Amazon." I did a lot of tactics in that book, and so many of them didn't work.

Brandon Simpson
