5.0 out of 5 stars Dungeons gold, 12 July 2006
By Loose Bones (West Midlands, UK) - See all my reviews
Released in the US in 2005, this collects (and improves) a series of adventures previously published in Dungeon magazine (issues 96 to 116). These are for a dungeon master to lead 3rd edition Dungeons and Dragons players from level 1 right through to 20.

The plots which players uncover are centred on the town Cauldron, situated in a volcano's caldera (suggested to be in the Amedio Jungle of the World of Greyhawk), of which great maps are provided. The action takes place in classic subterranean settings against goblins, slavers, kuo-toa and giants, before confrontations with the higher level NPCs who are dealing with the demons' Abyssal plane.

I've only seen preview sections of this, but given their quality, this book's scope and the reputation of Dungeon magazine, this is surely the best a DM can get. It's unlikely to achieve the notoriety of the old classic series (like the Temple of Elemental Evil) but as a well worked out stand-alone complete series, it beats those 1st edition modules. This is therefore the new gold standard for D&D adventures.
