Ever since, the people of the Wheel have prayed for the Makers to return.
Now their prayers are answered. But not in the way they expect
The centaurs of Deica's village didn't know what to make of the strange infant born with two legs and no tail. She grew up an outcast; the only bright spot in her life her extraordinary gift with the bow. But when a Serpent attacks her village, Deica flees, beginning a dangerous journey to the center of the Wheel, a journey that will bring her face to face with who she really is and what it means to be human.
The Archer's Flight is the first book in the Wheel series.
From the Author
This book was created in an unusual way: the storys readers chose the actions of its main character. The story was initially published online in seventeen chapters. Each chapter ended in some dilemma for the protagonist, Deica; the audience collectively decided what she would do (via posting and voting on a web site), and their decision led to the next chapter. This was not a group of writers choosing what would make the best story; rather, the readers decided what they would do if they were Deica.
Those who took part in this experiment experienced something between reading a story and playing a game. They enjoyed each chapter as they would a favorite novel, and considered each decision as they might the moves of a chess game. For me the process was both demanding and exhilarating: writing each chapter without knowing the next, adding new places at each turn, trying to keep the story on track while the main character kept slipping off in unexpected directionsI would have pulled my hair out if I hadnt been having so much fun.
This book is the product of that experience. The story has been edited, but the basic plot is the same as the initial online story. And it bears its birthmarks: its a story filled with twists and surprises, a story of choices. Its not a story that any one person would ever think up, and I hope that it will open the door to many other stories that no one person would ever think up.
