From the Publisher

What's new In Dreamweaver 8?

Macromedia Dreamweaver version 8 makes creating standards complaint Websites easier than ever.

Dreamweaver 8's new integrated CSS panel makes editing CSS and seeing its affect on your page layout a breeze. Also included in this version of Dreamweaver is new support for CSS media types, allowing you to view your CSS based document in the same way as the end user will see it, whether it is on screen, on the printed page, or on a hand-held device.

CSS rendering in Dreamweaver 8 has also been improved to better match the rendering used in most current Web browsers, giving a realistic impression of the way a Website will appear in the major browsers.

New features in Dreamweaver 8 can save time and increase productivity. Code folding allows you to 'collapse' sections of code while not working on them, giving you the option of focusing only on the code you are editing. Dreamweaver 8 also makes it easier to clean up code that has been generated by Microsoft Word and other applications, ensuring clean, semantic code.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Brilliant Introduction to Dreamweaver, HTML, XHTML,, 26 Nov 2005
By Ms. Sally J. Hayward "SallyJ" (Basingstoke) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
and of course building a standards compliant websites

Do not be put off by the title... this is the best introduction to a software package I have encountered in the last 20 years. I had never used Dreamweaver before and had only fleetingly come across HTML - but I worked through this book from cover to cover in 3 days and feel as if I have been on a top quality training course (which incidentally would have cost in excess of £2,000!).

Most of the chapters of the book are dedicated towards building a dummy website ... but not at the tediously slow pace of other books. This approach enables you to learn by doing..there is sufficent repetition to reinforce the learning but not enough to bore you. Copies of all the files you generate are available from the website - which enables you to easily track down any silly mistakes you have made!

There is an excellent balance between working in the design view using the full power of Dreamweaver to generate the code, and working in the code itself (which didn't seem at all daunting!).

The book also demonstrates that it is perfectly possible to produce a great looking website which is also accessible to those who are using readers, require larger type or low graphics etc.

If you want to learn Dreamweaver 8 I cannot recommend this book highly enough!

5.0 out of 5 stars Just right, 19 April 2006
By Martin Lamb (Stroud Gloucestershire UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Having taken over my roller skating club's neglected website with a very basic knowledge of the techniques, I found that this book enabled me to get it up and working. The book is structured around a series of miniprojects, each of which is about right for an evening's session. The text is mercifully concise: this is not a list-it-all reference book. Nevertheless, I find myself referring back to it. Because of the rapid pace by which web technology is develping, many earlier books are obsolete, but this one should have a few years to run. If your aim is the practical one of constructing a website, this book is excellent.
