Fans of the "Space: 1999" TV series will enjoy this lightweight but nonetheless entertaining slice of nostalgia. The story concerns the inhabitants of Moonbase Alpha as they grapple with the consequences of a near miss by an alien artefact and neatly captures the feel of the TV series that inspired it. Readers not familiar with the programme may find the lack of description of the characters and the technology that sustains them a little disappointing but, as acknowledged by the author in his introduction to this new edition, this book is clearly aimed at those who know and enjoyed "Space: 1999".
On the negative side, this edition is littered with proofreading errors that do detract from the enjoyment of this read. In these days of spell checkers and electronic editing this is unforgivable. The star rating associated with this review reflects this.
