Richard Gerber joined Intel in 1991, and through years of learning-by-doing, he has become an expert in performance programming and optimizations. He has worked on numerous multimedia projects, 3D libraries, and computer games. As a software engineer, he works on the Intel® VTune™ Performance Analyzer and trains developers on optimization techniques.

i enjoyed this book very much, although it didn't go quite as far as i had hoped. it has a very solid introduction to optimisation, mostly with vtune, with many step-by-step approaches to analysing different situations. it does a good job of describing modern hardware architecture and performance issues, and is generally well-written and well balanced, it will be sitting next to my screen for some time to come, i am sure. to earn 5 stars, it would have had to either cover other programs, or otherwise to go more in-depth with vtune. the basic feature set is explained and how to get the most out of vtune in the early days of learning it.
