Product Description

Synopsis
Before science, before history, there was an Age of Legend - and Legends never truly die...For years, the Name-givers - those races gifted with the ability to Name, and shape the very magic of the world - were forced to live in underground citadels known as kaers, while malevolent creatures from astral space, so terrible they could only be called Horrors, ravaged their world. The time of hiding has passed. Now, the Name-givers have returned, and reclaimed their place in the world. The fight is not over. The Horrors still linger in this world - in the cities and ruins lost during the Scourge. A corrupt Empire seeks to reclaim its provinces, and Name-givers with dark ambitions seek to set themselves up as the new power in the absence of the Empire. In this Age of Legend, only heroes can stand against the soul-rending power of the Horrors, and the dark machinations of those corrupt with power. Become these brave souls, and role-play in 'Earthdawn', the Age of Legends.

4.0 out of 5 stars Updated and collected Earthdawn RPG, 21 Oct 2001
By greyevil@yahoo.co.uk (Cardiff, Wales) - See all my reviews
For theose of you who don't have the old Earthdawn this new print is damn fine. It corrects some of the mistakes of the first print and also has some of the newer Adepts from the companion. Along with other information from the Earthdawn companion and GM screen book this is a good alround rpg, but if you have the older edition there there's no real point in buying this book (get the players to buy it instead).

4.0 out of 5 stars Almost Perfect, 26 Jun 2002
A truly original setting with places such as the Molten Sea, which apparently has Death trapped beneath it, Blood Wood, where the Elven inhabitants have performed a ritual to ward of the Horrors (bad things that came into the world) but at a terrible price, the Mist Swamps, and the Badlands, to name a few.

Coupled with characters to play like Humans, Obsidimen (Giant humanoids made from stone), Orks, Trolls, T S'Krang (Lizard men), Windlings (9" small winged creatures), Elves, and Dwarves, and an excellent rules system, Earthdawn is by far the best fantasy rpg Ive played in my 22 year interest in the hobby.

If I had a gripe, it would be the copious amounts of data you have to input for NPCs, between defenses, karma, attributes, skills, talents, and (if your one of the 4 spellcasters) magical spells, equipment etc, it can easily take up an entire page. Still, thats why we invented PCs.

Buy it. Its almost the perfect rpg.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the Best RPG's around, 1 Jun 2002
This is actually one of the best RPG's around. Unlike D&D which began with a flawed system and could nothing but build on it, this system has what has to be the greatest character building system ever created, not too much detail but plenty to keep everyone happy. The world itself has plenty of excellent history and potential for developing your own games, from fun to down and dirty wars to the Lovecraftian horror. Best on the shelves years ago, about time 2nd Edition came out!
