Quality reading, 3 Dec 2002
By A Customer
From a person who has read many good breed books but knows very little about American Bulldogs I can say confidently that this is by far the best dog book I have ever read. From this book you get the usual introduction to the breeds history and ultimate goals of breeders but in addition you also many conflicting opinions. As you would expect with a breed such as this where conformation is not the most important aspect of the breed but has far more emphasis placed on working ability, many experts believe that their dogs require different physical attributes depending on their work. The author has his own personal opinions on this breed but throughout the book he continuously refers to other experts with total respect and in no way tries to lead the reader into his way of thinking, you learn the beliefs of many different people and come to your own conclusion. One of the most impressive aspects of the book is the way in which the author introduces the reader to real Bulldogs. You get to know particualr dogs "Bully", "Bam Bam" and read of events in which they took place. This shows the reader that these dogs are ultimate athletes, but it also shows that they are different and each has different qualities and it lets you imagine what your perfect bulldog would be. The detailed descriptions of the trials that the dogs took place in is amazing and tells you all the nitty gritty details that you want to know but which unfortunately most breed books seem to leave out. Many breed books feel as if they are mass produced for all breeds and had a few details and photographs changed. This book I promise is different. It is written by an enthusiast who has obviously done loads of research and and wells of knowledge. I would strongly advise anyone who has an inclination of interest in this breed to read it, and anyone who has an interest in working dogs will soon have an interest in American Bulldogs if they decide to take a look at this great book.

The Only AB Book You'll Ever Need, 9 April 2005
By A Customer
I've read most books on American Bulldogs and in my opinion thisis the definitive one. It's rather unorthodox but refreshingly so. The author is very open minded and the book splits into a history, owning and working with AB's, and a synopsis of the most important US kennels. The author's style makes it very readable, and it's somewhere between being a text book and a story. Terrific book.
