5.0 out of 5 stars Marvelous look at classic US series, 11 Dec 2002
While the UK had the Quatermass saga, the United States ventured forth into science fiction on television with two terrific television series--The Twilight Zone and The Outer Limits. TOL was the brainchild of writer/producer/director Leslie Stevens. He envisioned a series that would have the impact of TZ but be more experimental.

He chose as producer Joe Stefano screenwriter of Hitchcock's Psycho. The contrasting styles of the two men worked well at creating an interesting, stylish drama. While Stevens focused more on straight science fiction and the story idea, Stefano focused on what can be best called gothic fantasy and character.

Schow's book does a terrific job of reconstructing the birth, maturity and premature death of this outstanding series. His assessments on the individual episodes strengths and weaknesses is, for the most part, spot on. While you're at it, I'd suggest picking up the series DVD as well.
