Place of Mirrors is based on my own experiences and extensive research on the Maya, both the ancient civilization and the Maya living in Mesoamerica today. Many people are curious about the Maya, but there is little availbale that gives a realistic picture of who they were, and still are. So much has been revealed about these fascinating people in the past few years, with sudden advancements in deciphering their glyphs and exciting new archaeological discoveries. I think there's a reason we are learning these things now when the world is facing such incredible change in every facet of our lives. When you study the ancient Maya you realize that the impact of dramatic change is not unprecedented. When they realized that their traditional systems weren't working anymore they ababdoned them. Maybe it's time for us to do the same. The Maya people didn't mysteriously "vaporize" as some would have you believe. Place of Mirrors is a story about real people with much to teach us.
