5.0 out of 5 stars a well laid out reference book, 30 May 2000
By A Customer
although one reviewer though the book focused a bit too much on the " life is like kickboxing " stuff, i found it relevent, I still refer to the book a lot, and am a competant fighter, it is reasonably basic, but the foundation of all fighting styles are basic. The chapter on avioding getting hit seems obvious, but is always overlooked in training guides. If you are after a motivating training manual, it is money well spent, if you are after unrealistic moves and unlikly situations go and rent a jackie chan film.

4.0 out of 5 stars good for the beginner, but a little patchy in knowledge, 17 Feb 2004
By A Customer
This is a pretty good refence book for the average person getting into kickboxing and covers the bsic material well. However, I found it a little bit patchy at times in reference to the knowledge, for instance it will talk about roundhouse kicks to the body and head but forget about the legs, or mention kicking with the instep and then later on talk about kicking with the shin. This can be a little confusing to the beginner who has little to no experience of kickboxing (which is who this book is aimed at). It also doesn't go as in-depth as I would have liked. Granted it is a beginner's book, but nevertheless there were some moves which weren't really described in detail enough. It is also rather short for the price.
Hoever, Mr. Cunningham's enthusiasm and wit shine through in this book and his many little snippets of info from his experience in the ring are very educational to a fighter just starting out.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good for begninners (under 2 yrs training), 23 Aug 1999
By A Customer
I thought this book was well set out and contained lots of useful info. The book was not as in-depth as I would have liked and seemed to spend a lot of time on explaining the similarities between life and kickboxing. The section on combos is v. good but the basic moves could have done with a few extra entries and a few more photos, All in all a very good book for the fairly new kickboxer.
