I just love this series & was so pleased to read Jeanie Cesarini's story, "An act of love". It's a must just for that story alone. It follows on from her earlier story "The spy who loved me". Shelby, was mentioned in the previous story finally got her own story & it was brilliant. It was great to see Paige & Chris again.

The others are equally as brilliant, I was not disapointed with any of the stories.

They are:
Enslaved - Desiree Lindsey
The bodyguard - Betsy Morgan & Susan Paul
The love slave - Emma Holly.

For me the 4 stories in this anthology split into the good and the bad.

Based on the fact that this is supposed to be romantic erotica, I thought 2 stories hit the mark.

If you want something hot, but with emotional engagement between the protagonists, the ones that deliver are:

Jeanie Cesarini's An Act of Love
Emma Holly's The Love Slave

I really like Emma Holly's writing (hence me buying this anthology). She manages to combine really sexy and really romantic stories whether in the short form or as a novel.
Here we have a virginal princess having to choose 3 male slaves for a year who have to do everything for her. All in preparation for marriage and ultimately ruling power. The principal characters are well drawn and attractive. The sex scenes reinforce the characterisation as well as been hot. There are a number of secondary characters who have a direct impact on the story and EH manages to invest them with life without padding out or distracting from the central story.

I'll definitely investigate more of Jeanie Cesarini's work as her story was also really romantic and very hot. The troubled actress who cannot act out a sex scene and the man drafted in as her acting coach. Again - we get depth to the characters, so I was hoping and cheering for the HEA.

Of the other two stories, I found the whole premise of Enslaved by Desiree Lindsey distasteful, and the HEA at the end left a particularly sour taste in the mouth. The characters, particularly the irritating heroine, were rather shallow, and their motivations were not credible to me. No romance, but I suppose you could find it erotic (I didn't).
No romance (and not particularly sexy sex) in The Bodyguard by Betsy Morgan & Susan Paul. The female bodyguard assigned to protect a client who puts a lot of time and effort into her sex life. The men were ciphers, and the women left barely an impression either. I know the short format means that things have to happen in a rush, but this was ridiculous.

As this is my first experience of a Secrets anthology, if I investigate the series further, I'll be lowering my expectations of romance or eroticism in future...
