5.0 out of 5 stars Difficult to fault, 28 Feb 2006
By A Customer
Probably the most user-friendly of all the books available on staying safe in avalanche terrain. Written (and published) by two of the most experienced practitioners in the avalanche world. It won't bamboozle you with over-technical stuff on snow, snowpack and avalanche dynamics, it just gives practical and accessible advice about what to look out for in order to stay safe (and what to do if it all goes wrong).
Just like all the other books on avalanche safety, you need to combine the content with practical experience. Perhaps 'Snow Sense' is best looked upon as essential preparatory reading for an avalanche course?

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent practical guide to evaluating avalanche hazard, 10 Feb 2009
By Rory (Scotland) - See all my reviews
This little book is very readable and the terrain / snowpack/ weather / human factor approach to evaluating the hazard is one that is easy to apply to a variety of situations and stands the test of time.
