5.0 out of 5 stars The best Coffee table book I have!!, 19 Mar 1999
By A Customer
A few friends who work at the "Mouse-House" told me about this with this simple quote: "Ever wondered how careless people can get? Get this book and check out chapter 8." It contains stories that I have heard over the years or have read in old news-paper articles.

After having this book for 3 years, it is time to retire my old copy and obtain a new one. After being in many hands, and chapter 8 being dog-eared to where the corner finally fell off.

This book is great reading even if it is fiction or non fiction. Read about silly lawsuits, secrets behind the scenes at disneyland, what the characters in costume have to put up with, and in chapter 8 - read about how the slowest ride has claimed the most lives. A must have for anyone who loathes or loves disneyland!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Mysteries of the Mouse, 30 Jan 1999
By A Customer
Have you ever wondered what secrets lie beyond the threshold of Sleeping Beauty's castle door? Well, if you ever have, Daivid Koenig's "Mouse Tales: A behind the Ears look at Disneyland" is where you should look to find your answers. Koenig's book is filled with interesting facts that the people of Disney don't EVER want the public to know, since they so desperatly want to keep their magical illusion alive. When one enters Disneyland, they tend to forget that it is a real place and that accidents, violence, and even death can occur and shatter the happy atmosphere into pieces. I am an obsessed Disneyland fanatic, and was shocked yet deeply interested as I read of the factual events that took place - and many of them were not very cheerful. In fact, many were rather grotesque and morbid. You may ask why I would speak so highly of these awful happenings. Well, put simply, we are sheltered so much from the truth (especially in the case of Disneyland) that one cannot help but be intriguied. Koenig also puts you in the shoes of a Disneyland cast member, in which the reader discovers that it is not the "happiest" job on earth. Despite all of the things I had never imagined to occur at Disneyland, my love and admiration for the place has not changed. I am not afraid to visit the theme park, nor will I ever be. The book had the tendency to alter my decision to ever enter the park again, but it did not. It only made me more aware. Although it is not worthy of the Nobel Peace Prize, it is destined to become a contemporary "Disney" classic, because it is written extremely well and has the potential to lure in other curious Disneyland fanatics or even the regular Joe.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great book, but reveals a little too much of the magic, 5 Aug 1999
By A Customer
This book was very interesting and was hard to put down. It was so cool to hear the behind the scenes stories that you never get the chance to see. As a child growing up, Disneyland was an island unto itself. Having been to Disneyland more times than I could ever count, the magic is still there. Unfortunately, after reading the book, some of that magic disappears. I cant help but think of these stories that were told each time I visit in the future. It is a good book, but would not want my kids to know the behind the scenes stories. The magic of Disneyland is not knowing the reality of human nature.
