Product Description

Product Description

Addiction to drugs or alcohol is a disease affecting the entire family. Early childhood intervention decreases problems in adulthood. This helpful workbook provides basic information about addictions and encourages healthy coping skills. Children express personal trauma and feelings more easily in pictures than in words, and the pages of this title are perfect to 'draw out' those feelings and hurts. There is plenty of room for a child's artwork. A workbook to help children through the trauma of a parent's chemical dependency problems.

4.0 out of 5 stars Working with children of misusers, 13 Sep 2002
By A Customer
This book was used for work done with children of substance misusers and proved to be quite a find. The children involved related well to the tasks and the information was put across in a suitable language for the young people to understand.
The only minor problem was using it in England with the Americanised spelling

5.0 out of 5 stars Well designed product, 30 Sep 2009
I used this book as a social worker working with children whose parents misuse drugs and alcohol. As well as using the worksheets directly with children, it has helped me to prepare for conversations by providing consistent child-friendly language for talking about addictions. There are pages discussing what the problem of addiction is, how this affects the loved one, what this means for the child and there are also sheets helping the child to think about actions they may need to take to keep themselves safe. Although this is an American book and therefore some of the spellings are different, I have not been able to find another work book that is so child friendly and great for opening discussions between children affected by addiction and professionals, carers or family supporting with them.
