As a diehard fan of Hammer films I initially wondered what else could be written on the subject that I hadn't already read. After all, there are loads of excellent and not so excellent books dedicated to Hammer.
I needn't have worried.Bruce Hallenback has given us a worthy addition to the ever growing Hammer library. His book is filled with fascinating behind the scenes information and it's refreshing to see the films reviewed from a social standpoint.
They may have been set in that other wordly gothic past but they are very much a product of their times.
The Hammer Vampire is set to become the definitive word on the subject and I can't recommend it highly enough. The Hammer Vampire (British Cult Cinema)

There are countless books on Hammer Films, this one is a bit different in that it deals with just the Vampire output from the much-missed studio. Bruce G Hallenbeck gives a thorough description of each film, together with production information from many who worked on them. Well illustrated, mostly black and white, but several centre pages in colour, this is an excellent book for Hammer enthusiasts or anyone wishing to find out more about the iconic studio and it's vampires.

As a coffee table browse, this is certainly decent enough to interest the casual viewer who enjoys the Hammer gothic style of vampire movies.
There are some interesting bits of information and photos, but it isn't really an in depth look at the films that I was hoping.

As an introduction - fine. For anyone wanting real detailed analysis, I think you need to look at the various Hammer books of MArcus Hearn or Wayne Kinsey to really dig deep enough.
