'In one of the games you could blast through the streets in a car being chased by the cops before picking up a prostitute. After having sex with her in the back of your car you could then shoot her and get your money back'

For a book set in the eighties this is wildly anachronistic. You're directly referring to Grand Theft Auto 3 which came out in the early 2000's. It may seem pedantic me picking up on this, but since you're critiquing the media's debased revelling in violence then maybe you shouldn't be exaggerating the violence present in the time you're depicting. Isn't that what the media do, exaggerate the undercurrent of violence in society and by doing so bring it to the forefront in the minds of those most predisposed to take it as affirmation that their actions are natural? Well you just slipped into that terrain by writing about something you don't understand. Don't jump on the 'violent video-games corrupting youth' bandwagon if you haven't done any research. It's fine to dismiss Grand Theft Auto 3 as gratuitous violence, personally I disagree since it's got a heavily satirical tone and I think most people view doing things in it like murdering prostitutes as ridiculous rather than admirable and the joy comes from the absurdity of committing these reprehensible actions and that doesn't translate into any real-life desire to mirror them unless you're a pre-existing sociopath. But that's moot. However you offered up that game as a scapegoat in a period where it wasn't even close to existing. In-fact that whole passage sounds like you merely read an outraged article in some tabloid and transcribed it into your book. I doubt you have any comprehension of what you're referring to.

Still, enjoying the book so-far.
