There have been many books written about boating, and many books written about boat angling – but none about owning and running a small boat written specifically with the requirements of boat anglers in mind. Boat anglers use their boats very differently from other boating enthusiasts, yet many of the fundamental principles of boat handling, safety and terminology are the same. On the other hand, some of the knowledge required is specific to sport fishing. This book brings together all the subjects of interest to anglers moving into the world of small boat ownership, or to the amateur boat owner.
From the Author
I decided to write this book because I came across many questions on web forums asking for help on the basics of owning a boat. I realised that I had asked the same questions once, and it took years to find all the answers. There are many people willing to help, and there are countless books and magazines, but I have never come across a book as an introduction to boats written with anglers in mind. This is it.
This book was written as a "get you started" guide, so it provides the basic information you need to have on a range of topics. Many specialist books have been written on each area covered. Once you have a general grasp of what to do with your boat, and if you want to explore areas such as navigation, there are plenty more sources on the web, in magazines, books, videos and courses. I hope you will want to find out more.
