Synopsis

'A Girl Called Madonna' tells the story of frankly the most amazing 'n' important female singer in the history of everything. Among the breathtaking revelations: * Madonna likes to sing and dance! * Madonna was very honest about kissing people and made other people realise that kissing people was a good thing! * One day Madonna drank a special potion called 'bitter'? it turned her into an English lady! 'A Girl Called Madonna' is part of a fairly amazing new series of ultra-concise and brilliantly illustrated pop biographies. Popjustice Icons capture the 'amusing' and passionate spirit of the award-winning Popjustice website: collect, as they say, the set!

4.0 out of 5 stars Could have been a bit better..., 16 April 2006
By R. Dawson (Worthing, UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
It was recently my birthday so for a treat, and seeing as I had a few quid lying around, I decided to buy this book. I am a big fan of Madonna, so this seemed like an obvious choice. After a few days of anticipation it finally arrived and I had a quick flick through. It looked really good, the illustrations are very well done and the design in general was very nice. I then left it for a while as I had other things to do.

A few days later I came back to the book and had a proper read-through. It was good, but not brilliant. I expected a lot more dark humour & Madonna references, so I was left a bit disappointed. Saying that though, there were a few bits which raised a smile, especially the first page.

Although it's not a masterpiece, I would recommend buying it. I mean come on, it's only a few quid, it's hardly going to break the bank, and it did provide me with some amusement!

I hope the rest of the series of books are a bit better than this, my advice to the author would be to think up more references to the artist, however vague, which
you could slip into the story (for example, in this book when they describe Madonna's success they say how 'Experience had made her rich', a line from 'Material Girl') Some more of these would improve it greatly.

Oh and also, if the series creator is reading this, please make a Britney one! :P

5.0 out of 5 stars A Girl called Madonna, 23 Jan 2007

I think this is a brilliant book and a must for any Madonna fan! It's so novel and so cute and most of it so true! The illustrations are adorable and it's another great thing to add to your Madonna collection. Fan or not you will laugh out loud at this portrayal of Madge's life so far! Buy it!
