Synopsis
"When you read the Bible and get to know it thoroughly, you will find that it is a book that speaks to every age and generation, because mankind remains the same in all its essential qualities, and God remains the same.", comments Dr. Martyn Lloyd-Jones. Dr. Robert A. Penney addresses the problems of a people that has turned its back on God: materialism, moral depravity, humanism, philosophy, sin in high places. He reflects on the ways in which God dealt with the people of Israel and its leaders, the early New Testament Church as well as some of the problems in the modern Church. Dr. Penney spent over twenty years as a Probation Officer in the Birmingham courts. On early retirement he studied at the Scottish Congregational College and New College, Edinburgh, whilst serving as an assistant to the late Dr Nelson Gray at Portobello Congregational Church. He pastored Beith Congregational Church, Ayrshire, for a short period before resigning to devote himself to writing and itinerant ministry. He now lives in Kirkintilloch, his home town, near Glasgow.
