Book Description
A comprehensive and fully up-to-date guide to over 750 pubs and bars in and around the Bristol area. The Guide features a full colour photograph of every pub, as well as details of all the facilities they offer.
In addition, each pub has a reference number to link to the britishpubguide.com web site so readers can check or update information on their local at any time throughout the year.
Handy check lists at the back allow readers to find pubs which offer any of the following: a car park; garden; a bed for the night; private functions; dogs welcome; a designated no smoking area; credit card payment; restaurant; bar meals; vegetarian options; coffee in the bar; guest cask ales; cask ale tapped straight from the barrel; children welcome; a children's menu; high chairs for younger children; an indoor play area; an outdoor play area; live music; a juke box; an environment free from piped music; sports events on satellite or cable TV; a pool table; a dart board; a skittle alley or petanque/boules piste; access for wheelchair users; and WC for wheelchair users.
All draught beers sold (cask ales, lagers, stouts, ciders, keg bitters and speciality beers) are listed so readers can seek out the perfect pint.
The Guide also provides readers with information on the pubs nearest the railway and bus stations in the area; as well as those near to Bristol's many great tourist attractions.
No payment is accepted for inclusion in the guide, and all the pubs have been visited by the research team during the Summer and Autumn of 2003.
From the Author
The breadth and variety of pubs in and around Bristol is breathtaking, from trendy city centre bars to historic country inns, and from real ale specialists to gastro pubs. The one thing they all have in common is that they want customers.
With this guide, I have set out to establish exactly what each pub or bar has to offer, and describe it so that readers can make up their own mind as to which best suits their needs. The street corner local, the upmarket wine bar, the rural retreat, all have a place in society and in this guide.
Pubs form a fascinating and uniquely British part of our heritage, and it has been a real pleasure to try to capture some the magic that makes Bristol's such a joy.
