5.0 out of 5 stars Lovely, in keeping with the period, nice austen edition, 11 Feb 2004
What a lovely collection this is, Odiwe has presented a really different and gorgeously presented book. It is all the sketches of Austen that never happened during her lifetime. Clearly Odiwe is a fan of Austen, and has a good eye for period detail, and the style of 'naive' picture which gently bred women of the period indulged in. The result is this really interesting book. It is a collection of letters which Cassandra wrote during her lifetime and pictures of Jane as perhaps she might have been at that time. A younger and vibrant Jane, the girl that shone out in her letters and books rather than the stern matron from the one face on portrait which remains of her.

It starts with the birth of Jane and her sister Cassandra's 'letter' from this time and follows their lives toghether, the seasons and holidays and so on. This is more than just a chronology of their lives but more each event is a reflection of what life was like then, Cassandra's love-interest (and his death), jane's Birth, Christmas etc.

This book is a slim volume but well presented and would be a lovely keepsake or gift for someone who is a keen austen fan, or keen on the Regency or Georgian period of English History. My copy will definitely be kept on the shelf.
