Product Description

Product Description
Jet Bomber Pilot is Robby's second book following on from the highly popular 'Avro One'. This well-written and entertaining book takes a close look at his RAF career. Beginning with 206 AFS at Oakington, where he learned to fly the Gloster Meteor in the early 1950s (a particularly dangerous period for jet training)., he was then posted on to the English Electric Canberra. He describes his training at Bassingbourn and postings to Binbrook and Scampton. Robby then volunteered to train on the Vickers Valiant, becoming one of the youngest pilots to acquire this skill. The Valiant is covered in great detail, in particular highlighting the role of this V-Bomber as an important nuclear deterrent and the stresses and strains inflicted on its aircrew because of this. Robby writes with characteristic self-effacing humour and includes many amusing anecdotes in his description of his RAF career.

Synopsis
Presents a story of RAF Pilots flying career from meteors at Oakington, through to valiants at Honington.
