Regional sections include maps and lists of profiled producers by region or appellation. For me, by far the best of the wine guides.’

‘An incredibly in-depth and addictively readable survey of wines of quality from around the world with intelligent tasting notes and informative background to the producers, plus stockists and UK prices. For me, by far the best of the wine guides’
Steven Spurrier, Decanter Magazine

‘This is Robert Parker territory but succinct and cheaper’
Joanna Simon,
Sunday Times

‘I heartily recommend this book as a thorough independent overview of the world’s best wine estates’
Tom Cannavan, wine-pages.com

‘I’d plump for this in preference to many of the rather unimaginative titles offered by mainstream wine publishers’
Jamie Goode, wineanorak.com

‘As essential to the sommelier as their corkscrew’
Paul Dwyer, BBC Radio 5 Live and BBC Radio Scotland

‘If you are passionate about your wine and pay serious attention to sampling the world’s finest bottles then this book should be on your shelf… I would strongly recommend this excellent guide’
Dr Edward Fitzgerald, Oxford University Wine Society

This definitive reference work covers over 12,000 wines from over 1500 of the world’s best producers. With real insights into what a producer’s wines taste like: the authors elucidate not simply flavours, but each wine’s style. --This text refers to an alternate Paperback edition.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply The Best, 20 Mar 2006
I must have around forty different books on one of my favourite subjects, wine. This is, quite simply, the best of them all and the one to which I refer most.

It also improves and expands with each edition making it an essential annual purchase.

5.0 out of 5 stars best value guide aroud, 10 Sep 2003

This book is for people who are interested in good wine. If that is you and you want to know who makes the best wine in the world this is the book. It assumes you have some experience of wine and then takes you on a whole world tour. For that alone it is unique.

The major part of the book is made up of producer entries by country and region detailing their range and style and value. This builds to a summary of the major wine regions and represents essential reading of anyone who seriously buys wine either for themselves or commercially.

If you have ever bought a case of wine you were less than happy with this book goes a long way to ensure that never happens again.

4.0 out of 5 stars Brave New Force, 3 Jun 2003

If you’re looking for a simple no nonsense book which can not only give you a good idea of what is behind the label but where to get it. This is the book to get. It deal simply and straightforwardly with what ends up in the glass without all the flowery prose and sometimes over complicated explanations of other books.

If you under the table out of it on plonk or off round to the prospective in-laws for a shake down fist meeting, its certainly worth a look.
