Product Description

The Duchess Of York
Emma's endearing humour shines through the pages of this inspirational and moving book.

Book Description
I should have died at 19.

When I was eighteen I had it all. I sailed through my A-Levels, out of the school gates and across the Atlantic to America, arms outstreched to greet the world that was waiting.

Three months later they told me I was dying...

This is the story about a year in my life; an extraordinary year. It is a little about dying, a whole lot about living and, I hope, something about what it is to be eighteen and know all the answers and to be nineteen and to realise that you have only just begun to understand the question.

5.0 out of 5 stars When Emma asked me to write a review on her book..., 7 Dec 2004
I was really worried when I found out that Emma was writing a book. It's silly, really, but being someone who has always seen her as "the angel in my mother's yoga class" I was scared that her amazing energy and view on life would not come across in her book;- after all, how could a book make a fan of satirical comedy who also happens to have Chronic Fatigue Syndrome feel positive and full of energy? (This is what Emma somehow manages to do.) Thankfully, I was wrong... is it just me, or does Emma have quite a skill at proving people wrong?

"Between Angels and Demons" is truly the most wonderful book I have ever read, and coming from an obsessive Harry Potter fan such as myself, that is certainly saying something. It show a young woman who is free and... slightly rebellious, just starting out on life and then seemingly getting it all ripped away from her. But this is just the beginning, what her book actually taught me is something else.

As I said before I have Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, which I know doesn't compare to what Emma has gone through, but that doesn't mean I haven't learnt from and related to her book.

Speaking as a young woman with an illness that resulted in lying at home in bed as my friend went out and lived their lives, I can say that Emma's book gave me the fighting spirit I needed. It gave me back faith in my body and a belief that recovery is possible because the human body is an amazing thing and will heal.

Speaking as a teenager, whose life is just beginning, I can say that Emma's book gave me a different type of fighting spirit that so many people don't have. The self-belief, positive attitude and care for others that we all seem to push aside as we're told that it is a weakness, forgetting, for some reason, that it's actually the greatest strength of all.

This book will make you laugh, cry and shout out in disbelief, and possibly, if you're, say, a receptionist who decides it's a good idea to read the book under your desk at work, make your work colleagues think you're insane as you laugh, seemingly to yourself imagining the Duchess of York jumping out of a wardrobe... not that I would know anything about that of course.

5.0 out of 5 stars Moved to Tears, 7 Oct 2004
By Mr M R Buckledee (Hockliffe, Bedfordshire United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
'between angels and demons' by Emma Bowes Romanelli...... "I was moved to tears in both laughter and sadness. This book is a unique insight into how, if brave enough, the human spirit can overcome all the odds and that the will to live can sometimes just be enough. It is a promise that you will be truly inspired by the gifted words and tremendous optimism of this remarkably courageous young writer."
