5.0 out of 5 stars A Trip Down Memory Lane, 12 Feb 2003
By Ivor White (St.Leonards on Sea , England) - See all my reviews
A compilation of letters posted between Hastings and Canada between 1942 and 1955, with added anecdotes by the author, form the basis of this moving and informative insight into what was a difficult time for the many who lived in 'front-line' Britain during the austere years of World War Two.
I know, because I was there. If you want to know what it was really like, this book is essential reading. You won't want to put it down.

5.0 out of 5 stars Thank you, Victoria!, 25 Mar 2003
By Janet Morris (North Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada) - See all my reviews
What a wonderful book; I could not put it down! Letters From Lavender Cottage triggered for me long-forgotten memories of the excitement our family felt when food parcels arrived from my great aunt in North Vancouver, Canada and how I, as a child, was allowed more than my share of the extra-special treats. Victoria Seymour's writing has perfectly captured the mood of that time and the strong will of the British people. A plus for me was to see that Victoria had chosen to include two of my father, Les Englefield's photographs which he took of the devastating snow storm in the winter of 1947.
