Along with it's very reasonable price relative to the content, the Handbooks size, conciseness and variety encourages the reader to explore more in and outwith the book.

Finally a useful, handy and yet extensive guide to Scotland's fascinating history and rich heritage! More than 900 entries cover in loving and well researched detail all that is most dear to the Scottish people and those interested in and travelling the trail of its history - from castles to stately homes, churches to cathedrals, hamlets to cities, distilleries to golf clubs. The Historical Handbook to Scotland is not a standard travel guide but rather a work of reference offering a wealth of unusual information rarely found in such publications. As a traveller with an interest in history, I have had much pleasure in reading this book.

To allow the Historical Handbook to Scotland to be as comprehensive as possible while still making it manageable for the traveller, the book does not contain any illustrations. A map as well as an alphabetical index at the front of the Handbook facilitate access to the entries.
