Excellent, practical guide to Ethical Shopping, 24 Nov 2004
The Good Shopping Guide is an excellent guide to which brands to buy and which brands to avoid from an ethical point of view. There are about 70 different product categories - from butter to jeans and banks to shampoo - which include substantial editorial on the ethical issues involved plus a summary of the best brands to buy (and which not to). The summary is taken from an indepth ethical anaylisis of the companies behind each brand and shows how they perfom against a number of different ethical criteria (eg. animal testing, pollution, armaments, genetic engineering). Did you know that Diesel is a more ethical brand of jeans than Calvin Klein? Or a Whirlpool washing machine is better than a Bosch? Not only is this an essential reference guide for ethical consumers, but it is also extremely informative and interesting. It can be easily dipped in and out of before you go shopping or captivate you for hours!

The Ethical Shopping 'Bible', 21 Feb 2006
A serious 350 page comparative analysis of hundreds of mainstream and niche consumer goods companies. Everything from ethical banks to ethical butter is examined in detail and ranked on animal welfare, human rights and environmental criteria. Amazing revelations eg that the company behind cuddly old Hovis bread has had some involvement in the arms trade !!Good reviews from Tony Juniper of Friends of the Earth and Penny Newman of Cafedirect as well as Juliet Davenport of Good Energy and Life on Earth BBC producer Alistair Fothergill. 30 or so beautiful full page photos of natural world included in serious reference text - so also quite a nice gift/coffee table book. Basically, its excellent - no more than you'd expect from The Ethical Company Organisation who are working hard to move consumer / ethical shopping on and on... see

ethical shopping - the key reference book, 9 May 2006
There's no waffle in this powerful little 350 page book from The Ethical Company Organisation (you'll find them at http:/www.ethical-company-organisation.org). It simply and extensively compares virtually every consumer brand's ethical record - on up to 14 different criteria. So you know what's best to buy and what's best to boycott. Apart from the comparative tables, there is some good background text and great full page colour photographs of the beautiful natural world (as it should be, quite uplifting!) The design values are high too so it works as a coffee table / conversation-point book to,. Highly recommended.
