Review

Indeed some books soften the heart and this is one them -- Islamic Book Review Jan 2002

This book was writeen when the meaning of Jihad was freedon - not Terrorism -- Egyption Book Review Oct 2001

From the Publisher

How sad it is that Muslims today have become occupied with fruitless occupations and believe that victory is achieved through words and conferences. Indeed, the Mujahideen around the world are not begging for their Muslim brothers to come their aid. The people need Jihad more than the Jihad needs them. As Abdullah Azzam wrote in The Signs of Ar-Rahman in the Jihad of the Afghan when he was asked whether the Afghan Jihad was in need of men, he replied, “The Jihad is in need of money and men are in need of Jihad.”

May Allah use this book to explain to the people the issue of Jihad today, which many Islamic scholars today have failed to explain. May Allah bring benefit by means of this book, and grant us all the courage and ability to respond to His Call. May He grant success and victory to all those who fight in His Way in all corners of the World.

This book was wriiten when the word Jihad was effectively being progated by the West and especially America. Not only did America partly finance the Mujahideen in Afghanistan , they trained and armed them.

The West encouraged Muslims from all over the world to fight the Jihad against the Russians.

This book from the Islamic point of view gives all the Quranic and Prophetic evidence in regards to Jihad, its merits and its rewards.

This is one book I found hard to put down, the author gives authentic proof and practiced what he preached. I recommend this to anyone interested in the quest for peace and a solution to the causes of suffering and oppression.

Masha'Allah this book is probably the most inspiring book around. And the fact that it is full of ayahs, hadiths - daleel after daleel makes it even more valuable. Its a must read for every person, especially in this day and age. Truly no words can give due credit to the Shaykh for his efforts - just duaa and hope that we may take heed of whats right. I suggest all those people with misconceptions about the obligations of a mumin and the way to bring about the respect and dignity of the ummah, should read this book with an open heart and learn from the truth.
May Allah(swt)make us of those who are guided Fi'sabilillah and Bless the Martyr Sheikh Azzam, Ameen.

HASH(0x94908f74) out of 5 stars Islam Jihad for Afghanistan 31 Jan. 2009
By William Garrison Jr. - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
1987 original pub. 1991(Second English edition published in London, UK; ISBN 0-9540843-0-6) An appeal for Muslims to establish "a solid foundation as a base for Islam" in Afghanistan by expelling the Russian invaders of this Muslim land. The author quoted extensively from the Quran and the hadeeth in establishing his jurisprudence reasoning as to why Muslims not only have a communal obligation (Fard Kifayah) in providing financial help to Muslim soldiers (mujahideen), but now that the foreign occupiers have become so threatening that there is now an individual obligation (Fard Ain) for committed Muslims to travel to the embattled lands and become active combatants themselves. The author, who was in Pakistan to coordinate financial support to the al-Quida/Taliban fighters, wrote that although the immediate battle was against the Russians in Afghanistan, the battle needed to be expanded to overthrow the Jewish state of Israel and "other usurped Muslim lands of the like" (i.e., Spain). He wrote that older teenage boys did not need their father's permission to travel to join in the jihad, but female volunteers needed to be escorted by a male relative (mahram) to Pakistan to work as a nurse or cook for the mujahideen, but they could not become fighters themselves (as Afghani women were not being used as fighters at that time). Azzam's other books: "Defense of the Muslim Lands" (his jurisprudence reasoning as to why Muslims must travel to Afghanistan to fight the Russian invaders, and eventually travel to Palestine to expel the Jewish invaders); "Signs of Ar-Rahman in the Jihad of the Afghan" (revelations of mystical spirits assisting the mujahideen); "Lovers of the Pardise Maidens" (stories of 150 jihad martyrs in Afghanistan).
