This biography of the late great Mick Ronson is very well written. It is filled with wonderful stories and comments from those who knew Mick well, both personally and professionally. It is written with respect for Mick, and does not exploit him. Ronno fans will be pleased with this book.

To the casual rock fan, Mick Ronson, if he is remembered at all, is remembered as someone who used to play guitar for David Bowie. Well, Ronson did do that, of course; as one of the Spiders From Mars, he helped propel Bowie to fame and stardom in the early 1970s. But Ronson was more than just Bowie's sideman. He also collaborated successfully with artists as varied as Ian Hunter, T-Bone Burnett, Elton John, Lou Reed, Roger McGuinn, The Pure Prairie League, Bob Dylan, and even David Cassidy. As a solo artist, Ronson released only a handful of solo albums during his lifetime, but they were excellent. Sadly, Ronson died of liver cancer in 1993 at the age of 46. Over the span of about a decade, Weird & Gilly interviewed more than fifty of Ronson's colleagues, friends, and family members while researching this book. They clearly have a great deal of affection for their subject, and not without reason; as they explain in the introduction, they got to meet Ronson a few times during his stint with the Hunter-Ronson band, and found him to be friendly and accessible to his fans. Weird & Gilly do a great job of revealing the life and times of this underrated musician. A must for the library of any true fan of rock and pop!

Outstanding, 19 Mar 2009
This is an absolutely amazing book - not least because it's the only one out there devoted to Mick Ronson, an amazing guitarist and - as is made abundantly clear in the book - an amazing person as well. You get a sense of his kindness, warmth, humility, and brilliance. A beautiful person. It's full of stories, recollections, recording details, a very comprehensive discography, and more. Anyone interested in Mick will find it a treasure trove of information and a really enjoyable read. Anyone interested in the people he's worked with - Bowie, Ian Hunter, Lou Reed, and a host of other artists - will also find much to enjoy. Can't say enough good about the book. Deserves more than 5 stars.
