From the Author
Now the homeowner has the power and knowledge to fight back.
After many years in the buildeng industry, I returned to full time education to study law. I soon realised that hardly any of the building clients I had encountered over the years had an inkling of how to reasure themselves that I or the company's that I had worked for had done a good job. There were plenty of DIY books about every conceivable angle of construction, but nothing on how to give the homeowner the upper hand if problems occur when employing a builder. More importantly to tell them what the minimum standards of quality are, and that they have the right to expect them.
Spurs or Halo is the fruit of this realisation, and it's been put together with my personal experiences with help from an architect to provide you with the knowledge to deal with the 'cowboys' when they strike, outlining the key problem areas in every part of home construction and maintenance from foundations to the roof. It's arranged in alphabetical order, to make it easy to find the section that you need very quickly.
