I'm a regular visitor to Lesvos-in particular Molyvos- and while generally flat on my back by the pool in June/July I like to roam a little in September when the weather is more changeable. Let's get the criticism out of the way first. The Price! For [the price] it's a little steep for what this really is- a well put together and colour photocopied extended pamphlet rather than a book. Otherwise though it is the best guide I have read to this area of the island. Written by someone who loves the place as much as I do and the directions are clear and the walks well-timed. Maunder also has an easy style of writing and it is very straight forward. I particularly liked the maps. Buy it if you are like me and want something a little off the beaten track if you are a regular visitor. If not then you'll find your own way arround if you are a first-timer as there is plenty to do. Make sure you visit the Mithimna Grill House in Molyvos (next to Betty's) as well as the food is fantastic!

I have been visiting Lesvos for many years now and know my way around the island quite well. In recent years I have been spending more time there in the spring, rather than high summer and have been able to spend some time walking around the Mithimna (Molyvos) area.

I found this book very useful on my most recent visit in April 2001. I'm not a rambler or a particularly keen walker, but I found the directions very easy to follow and my wife and I definitely enjoyed the 3 walks that we tried.

If you are interested in seeing a different side to this beautiful island, that many tourists are unaware of, this book is definitely worth buying.
