5.0 out of 5 stars A must for all running 'buffs', 20 Feb 2000
By hughanne@x-stream.co.uk (St Ives Cambridgeshire England) - See all my reviews
If you were a runner in the Pirie 'era' then this book is a definite 'must-read' I followed his exploits from the late 40's until the early 60's when he chose to leave the UK. Dick Booths book covers all those years and beyond until Gordons sad and premature demise in Dec 1991. Buy it!,read it! this book fills a gap in our library of athletic biographical history. Who next Dick Booth? Many thanks! .

5.0 out of 5 stars A guide to what made Gordon Pirie the runner's runner, 16 Feb 2000
By A Customer
A straight biography of the controversial British running star 1950's/1960's. Pretty well researched, full of detail, some excellent photographs and a beautifully presented book in terms of layout, etc. No sample training schedules, but these are available in Running Fast & Injury Free. A must for any aspiring middle-distance/distance runner who wants to learn about one of the great innovators of British distance running.

4.0 out of 5 stars You won't be disappointed, but don't expect running tips, 24 Nov 1999
By A Customer
Dick Booth's autobiography of Gordon Pirie went on sale in the UK on 18 Nov 1999 (book launch was at the Royal Society of Arts, London, on 22 Nov). It is a very detailed, well researched and professionally produced book with ample b&w photos. Gordon lived with us for the last few years of his life and we were given 3 draft chapters to review. Pleasingly, most of the mistakes we found have been corrected. I was worried from the title that the book would be negative about Gordon, but this does not seem to be the case.

Overall: if you are interested in this subject and athletics era, you should not be disappointed, but don't expect running tips ...
