5.0 out of 5 stars The Cheeky Guide To Brighton Comments, 26 May 2001
By A Customer
You have brought great merriment into a lot of lives around here. Your entry on page 103 for the George Hamilton V has had us all in fits, because your impression of the "rather unshaven man ... smelling of booze" must have caught our Colin on an unusually good day.

If, during your researches, you had wandered down Rock Place about midday (your map reference M9), any day of the week, and walked into the Battle of Waterloo pub, you would probably have come across Colin replenishing his fragrance. In fact, I would go so far as to say that overlooking the B of W is the only fault I can find in your delightful Guide ... think of the Battle on a score of bizarrery for Fawlty Towers, then multiply it by the number you first thought of.

What a heavenly little book; I shall be filling a few Christmas stockings with what I can only describe as the Real Guide to this wonderfully idiosyncratic town in which I live, and which I love as much as it sounds you lot do.

Well done, and thanks for a little gem,

Tony Wallace

5.0 out of 5 stars Essential, entertaining and comprehensive guide to Brighton, 11 April 2001
By A Customer
Whether you are visiting Brighton for one day or one week, The Cheeky Guide will give you a huge headstart in making the most of your time there. Having lived in Brighton for 10 years myself, I was extremely impressed by the accuracy and extraordinary attention to detail that has gone in to compiling this guide. And its very, very, very funny!

Everything you could possibly want to know about Brighton is here. From shopping to pubs and restaurants, tattooists, the gay scene, where to get your astrology chart done, clubs, some history ("in the beginning there was only herring" !?) and all manner of weird, wonderful and even relatively normal things! Being presented with an extraordinary range of things to do with a background of surreal humour is in fact very much in keeping with the spirit of Brighton itself.

An essential purchase if you're planning a visit.

5.0 out of 5 stars Utterly fantastic, 11 Sep 2006
By Richard Egham (London, UK) - See all my reviews
This is the funniest guide book I've ever read, and the only one I've ever wanted to read all the way through. The reviews (shops, pubs, restaurants etc) are useful as well as occasionally hilarious, and there's lots of odd stuff like chapters on local eccentrics (there's a man who waves at buses apparently). I bought it because I'm thinking of moving to Brighton, and it's served to cement my decision. I wish all guide books were like this!
