Product Description

Book Description

One fan's story of following a football team - in this case Millwall - come what way. A poor man's Fever Pitch? Maybe, but whereas Nick Hornby is content to watch a Championship decider on TV, Barrie Stradling would have walked to Liverpool and back to see Millwall play.

From the Publisher

Terrace Banter was launched in October, 1998, as a football imprint of S.T. Publishing. Over the past decade football as a spectator sport has changed beyond all recognition, particularly for the ordinary fan. A great deal of working class culture and tradition is being cast to one side so that football can appeal to a new market, that of the "soccer fan". Through Terrace Banter we hope to put down in print the experiences of the ordinary fan before they are lost forever in a sea of plastic seats and replica strips. Unless we document our own history, it is left to outsiders and the mass media to be judge and jury. Tuesday Night In Grimsby - A Diary Of A Masochist is a book that perfectly captures the highs of lows of a true football supporter. While Nick Hornby captured the imaginations of the new breed of armchair fan, here's a book for those who know what it's like to stand in the rain, on a Tuesday night, watching your team draw 0-0 at some far flung outpost of this green and pleasant land.

1.0 out of 5 stars I'd rather have a Monday night in Grimsby.., 19 Sep 2003

..than have to read this again. Anyone considering buying a football hooli-lit book would be better advised to buy Soul Crew, Scally or Guvnors for their fix of written down slice of life.
Anyone wanting to know what it is like to follow a team should read Fever Pitch, rather than this. If you want to know how many butties our friend can get through on a day out in the Nationwide, this is the book for you. If you want a laugh, you would be better off reading the Economic Review. Rubbish.

5.0 out of 5 stars from an un-biased person, 11 Jun 2005
The bloke who wrote a bad review on this book is an idiot. For starters why would a Boro fan want a book on Millwall, though it seems all this fella wants to read about is hooligans.

Get a life mate.

I'd recomend this book thoroughly to all Millwall fans with a sense of humour, as I would the other excellent publication by Barrie Stradling - I Was Born Under The Cold Blow Lane.
