Excellent, bloody excellent. By turns hilarious, tragic and chillingly honest. Just possibly the best book about one man and his team since Fever Pitch.

Book Description
'One man, one team, one love.' Singin' the Blues is the story of author Neil Nixon and his undying love for Carlisle United. Covering thirty years of triumph and tragedy the book records Carlisle's memorable week on top of the professional game, their recent brushes with non-league extinction and much more.

5.0 out of 5 stars CUFC, footy the universe and everything - It's all there, 24 Sep 2000
By paulcwatson@bigfoot.com (Gloucestershire, UK) - See all my reviews
It will be a great shame if this book doesn't make it outside Cumbria. It is a great football book certainly, written by a true lover of his club, but it is also an accomplished view on the World. Neil Nixon seemlessly merges the undulating fortunes of an unfashionable club, his own life, and the life of the world around us. Esoteric in parts - but reaching out enough to appeal to any lover of football - or life. And a pageturner to boot.

4.0 out of 5 stars The definitive guide to the emotions of a Football fan, 21 Sep 2000
By A Customer
Books about football, and in particular carlisle united tend to be books with a particular audience. This book just about breaks that theory. The book is a journey through the life of a Carlisle United fan,but is about much more than football.

The book made me laugh out loud, and wish for days gone by. But it also captures the dispair felp by someone following a club so often in trouble, but breifly reaching the heights of success.

For some parts of the book, football takes a back seat, as the author tells his tales of growing up in deprived West Cumbria.

A recomended read, not only for Carlisle fans, but anyone who's grown up supporting a lower league team, or living in a rural town.
