I first read this book to my 6 year old son (now 15) and then used it as a class teacher to read as our class book, It is a delightful tale for 5-8 year olds to follow as well as for confident readers to read themselves. Please Please buy or borrow it and you will see what I mean! I am now rediscovering it again with my 8 year old stepdaughter and she loves Scales' and Sam's adventures just as much, as it relates to what children know about school life (although class 4 are one of the best behaved classes for Miss Green I know!)There are 4 books in the series, one for each term of one school year and then one when they move up to be the top class in the infants. Best to read them in order. I hope it is published again at some time!
