Product Description

Product Description

This book is a car-by-car account of MG models from their foundation in the 1920s through to the 21st century. Some cars have become classics because there were so few. MGs became classics because there were so many. The best known sports cars in the world, MGs were already an institution in the 1930's, the founder Cecil Kimber having set a motor industry example of niche marketing which was followed for the rest of the century and beyond. Rarely the most expensive or the fastest of cars, MGs exemplified the sports two-seater in its purest form. An open MG became an aspiration of the young at heart throughout the world; its name bolstered by a sporting reputation that transcended its outright victories. MGs were class winners, as in the 1933 Mille Miglia; they won epic events on handicap like the 1934 TT, when the great Nuvolari drove the splendid K3. MG's survival in the rough and tumble of the motor industry was testament to a reputation forged when the charismatic Midget of 1929 lit a spark of enthusiasm that never went out.

4.0 out of 5 stars Useful addition to your MG / Classic Car book collection, 7 Sep 2001
By A Customer
I was really glad I bought this book, as my car appears in it! (Mk2 Midget, 1964). I didn't know this when I ordered the book. The book is a useful chronological account of all the cars that wore (and still wear!) one of most famous and easily recognised car marques in the world, currently undergoing a renaissance now it is back under British ownership again. There is an entry for each particular mark of each model, and each entry is accompanied by picture of the correct model/mark (mostly colour photos). At the end of book is a detailed chronological listing of all the notable dates in the history of the MG marque. If you are an MG enthusiast, you probably have access to all the information in this book elsewhere, but this is probably spread around in a number of other books, so this little book will probably be a welcome addition to your collection. My only grumble is that book could be a little bigger dimension wise, so that pictures could be made larger.
