THE BRITTAS ANTICHRIST, 30 Nov 1999
By A Customer
Imagine the inept, beaurocratically obsessed Gordon Brittas from the TV comedy The Brittas Empire taking Sam Neill's role in the third Omen movie, and you have a good approximation of the feel of this novel. The tale follows the grey, ineffectual Hector Sextus Hepton in his bid to build an empire of evil, starting with a small following in Edinburgh. His plans to conquer the world, and bring about the reign of darkness and Chaos are laughable, and highly amusing. From the limbs in a bin bag, to deep fried kittens mailed to media organisations, this tale is by turns hilarious and hilariously disturbing. As Hectors attempts to gain notoriety continue to fail he turns to ever more desperate (and violent)measures to maintain control of his disillusioned followers... The style and feel is reminiscent of Iain Banks The Wasp Factory, and the lighter moments of American Psycho and The Butcher Boy. A compelling read.
