Mitsusuke Harada is one of the very few remaining karateka to have trained privately under Funakoshi. This is the story of Harada's training from the early days in the Shotokan, through private training with Egami, the first training courses with the American airforce, the creation of Shotokan Brazil, and upto the present day.

It provides a useful insight into early Shotokan training with some of the acclaimed masters of Karate, along with a view on how Funakoshi and Egami saw karate progressing. A must-read for anyone with an interest in the early years of karate.

Readers may also be interested in the preceding book "karate master: the life and times of mitsusuke harada" by Clive Layton which gives even more information and anecdotes from Master Harada's training.
