Want to improve your Shogi ? If you answered yes then this is most definitely the book for you.
This book contains 12 games played by non japanese amateur players with extensive commentary by first 7 Crowns title holder, Yoshiharu Habu.
Topics covered during the analysis of the games include:
Fundamental strategy
Making a plan
Advancing a piece behind a pawn
The moment to engage an enemy piece
A vanguard pawn
The main battleground
King safety
Developing an attack through exchanges
Thickness
Speed
How to continue an attack
Progress
Mr Habu's commentary is all ways clear and concise but some of the games toward the end of the book may be difficult for beginners to understand as they are games between high level players. But as experience is gained things will become much clearer.
I would recommend this book to Shogi players of all levels but complete novices would be better off with "The art of Shogi" by Tony Hosking or "Shogi for beginners" by John Fairbairn.
