4.0 out of 5 stars Its Cool For Cats............, 19 Dec 2003
As far as football violence goes, and lets face it the vast majority of such epics are tedious, dubious and do little but glorify mass battles in areas where it is likely that women and children can be found, this is about as good as it gets. Make no bones about it, Mr. Francis is an extremely complex and "hard"person. He makes several key statements that sociologists who constantly review the hooligan culture, should take on board such as the fact that he didn't just fight at football, he was prone to violence wherever and whenever. It also shows how difficult it was for him to move into legitimacy because of the reputation he and his associates had acquired not only with the authorities but with others in later life. A key publication in this overflowing and glorified area.

5.0 out of 5 stars the best soccer hooligan book - by the greatest soccer hooligan!, 23 Sep 2006

(REAL NAME)
As a football team, MCFC may have been overshadowed regulary by the arguably more famous team they share this city with, but their hooligan gang, the Guvnors, always had masses of fame (or notoriety, depending how you look at it) and made sure that Manchester City were always on the map.

Brilliantly written, you can feel like you are in the thick of it. I am not a violent lad by any means, however reading this book really makes you want to go out there on the rampage, it is so full of excitement and adrenalin.

Apart from the football aspect, Mike (or Micky as he is known) tells some great stories about his upbringing in Moss Side, and his life in between the matches, and also the direction he has since followed, as a consultant, door security firm boss, and high profile businessman.

Micky Francis, although not a guy to cross, evidently has a good attitude to life and is a highly intelligent man.

The book was written back in 1997 and as I understand it he has since gone from strength to strength and is now enjoying well deserved success. He remains respected far and wide, and his determination and self belief should be an example to us all.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best book of its kind., 13 Dec 1999
By A Customer
An outstanding account of leading one of the countrys largest football firms. This book is written by Micky Francis, a man who grew up in Moss Side Manchester - the home of Manchester City Football Club. The book tells the story of how Micky Francis became one of the top boys in Manchester City's firm - "the Guvnors". An outstanding book which tells how football violence grew through the 70's and 80's and the highs and lows of supporting such a massive football club. I have read a number of books relating to football violence and this, i would have to say, is the best by far. Chapters include - "we hate leeds", "scousers", "cockneys". Buy it now!
