Product Description

Product Description
They say the more things change, the more they stay the same. Where West Ham United are concerned, that much is certainly true. The last three years have seen the club sack long-serving manager Harry Redknapp, finish 7th in the most competitive league in the world, then drop out altogether. Redknapp's replacement, Glen Roeder, was also given the axe as the club faced financial crisis. The plot would not look out of place in Eastenders, it's been that bizarre. The Hammers now face life in the first division under new manager Alan Pardew, so will they bounce back or continue to flounder? How did they get in such a mess in the first place? How could West Ham win consecutive cup-ties at Manchester United and Sunderland, then lose at home to Spurs? These questions and more are posed and then totally ignored in Robert Banks' brilliant new book, THE LEGACY OF BARRY GREEN.

5.0 out of 5 stars Banksy does it again, 11 Dec 2003
By Trevor Wilson (Malden, Essex) - See all my reviews
The eagerly awaited third book in this series following "An Irrational Hatred of Luton" and "West Ham 'till I Die" certainly does not disappoint. I don't know what it is but Banks just seems to capture the essence of being a West Ham fan with his dry observational humour. And he's had plenty of material to work on over the last three years. From the departure of Redknapp and the rollercoaster ride under "Herr" Roeder to the farce surrounding the appoointment of Pardew. It's all there, lovingly and hurtfully recounted. The title may not be immediately obvious, but refers to Gary Breen, Roeder's summer signing in 2002 that Banks believes contributed to the demise of his beloved Hammers. Not only that though, Banks reminds us that he's an ordinary guy, recounting tales from his personal life to remind us that no matter who we are, we are all basically the same. A brilliant stocking filler for anyone you know who supports West Ham, even if they don't it's a great read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Must Read for all Hammers Fans, 6 Jan 2004
By Lucy "Lucy" (Leeds, West Yorkshire United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
On opening this book on Christmas Day , Icould hardly put it down for more than a few minutes before returning it.Its "Fever Pitch" for Hammers fans as the third book Robert's written brilliantly tracks the trials and tribulations of the Irons and Roberts personal life.

I really loved the bit where Robert tried to come to terms with why he felt so proud when he saw Alfie and other characters in Eastenders wearing the claret and blue.I thought i was the only one!

Great stuff. Look forward to the 4th book in a few years!!
